Honouring My True Self — Transitioning to Full-Time Art
Q (expanded from Lee’s second question): How did you finally make the decision to embrace painting full-time, and how has it changed your life?
For years, I felt trapped in a cycle of achievement without fulfilment. The corporate world rewarded me with titles and success, but not with joy. Eventually, an internal restructure at work presented me with two options: take on an even more demanding role, or finally honour the voice that had been calling me back to art for decades.
In October 2024, I chose to honour myself. It was a leap of faith—leaving behind the security of a steady career—but it was also an act of liberation. Almost immediately, it was as if a floodgate had opened. Creativity poured through me. In just a few months, I produced new works such as Desire, Hypnosis, River Melody, and Tectonic. Each carried a raw, uninhibited energy that I hadn’t felt in years.
Transitioning to full-time art has been transformative. I am no longer weighed down by the silence of unfulfilled dreams. Instead, I feel a rhythm of colour, emotion, and freedom guiding my practice. Art is no longer something I return to occasionally—it is the very centre of my life.
